Four stationary cameras detect speeders in Sofia, and on average since the beginning of the year - every day there are over 800 drivers who do not comply with the restrictions, according to data from the Sofia Police.

However, legal changes provide that violators captured by municipal cameras will also be fined, bTV reported.

The most common speeding in Sofia is between 20 and 40 kilometers per hour above the permitted speed limit, according to data from the Sofia Police Department.

In the last month alone, a driver drove at 112 kilometers per hour on Blvd. “Slivnitsa“, and another speeder was caught at 128 kilometers per hour on “Cherni Vrah“.

Speed control in cities should be increased, because municipal cameras will also be involved in the hunt for violators - this was accepted by the deputies at the second reading in the committee.

Nearly 800 cameras monitor traffic in Sofia. Despite this, there are violators.

On one of the busiest boulevards in the center of the capital, although there are two signs indicating that this is a bus lane, most drivers are not at all worried about this fact.

Speeders also at intersections with traffic lights.

In just 10 minutes at the intersection of “Orlov Most“ eight of the drivers run a yellow traffic light, and two run a red one.

The Traffic Management Center monitors all the cameras in the capital in real time. When they register a violation and after the adoption of the law, drivers will automatically receive their fines in their e-mail.

“We are currently downloading the offenders' file and sending it by letter to the traffic police. They must process it and impose the sanction. The idea is for them to use these cameras automatically“, explained Dimitar Petrov from the “Traffic Management and Analysis“ Directorate.

The 30 municipal cameras in Plovdiv also detect violations, but do not issue fines for them yet.

“Passing a red light, when it is on a very long red light, that is, it has been on red for several seconds. "However, drivers are passing through the intersection," says Angel Velchev from the Traffic Management Center in Plovdiv.

In addition to the municipal cameras, with the changes, the TOLL system will now catch speed violators, and drivers will receive tickets electronically.
