The economic framework for public transport in Sofia was voted on and adopted by the Sofia Municipal Council. As agreed in May, the salaries of the four companies - the Center for Urban Mobility, Sofia Autotransport, Sofia Electric Transport and "Metropolitan" are being increased, BNT reported.
The increased salaries will be paid in full during the next payment of salaries with a retroactive date of April 1.
This morning, the protest of public transport workers began in front of the Sofia Municipality building. The unions of public transport workers insisted on the immediate adoption of the budget and payment of the promised 300 leva increase in basic salaries.
In May, for several days, surface public transport was blocked due to a protest by workers. And the cabinet allocated 15 million leva to the Sofia Municipality to solve the public transport crisis.
Here is what the dissatisfied workers said at the beginning of the protest today.
Mikhail Mihaylov, FTS "Malashevtsi": "The Municipal Council had voted for this budget once and I think we will defend it. In case this does not happen, starting tomorrow we will go on effective strike action, including "Electric Transport", "Auto Transport" , CGM and this time "Metropolitan"."
"Let's support the drivers, not the bloated administration, who are 4 in a room and can't get more than two hours of work. The mayor is right, you can't give the same thing to both the driver and the administration!"
Ivan Takov, chairman of the transport committee, Sofia City Council: "For weeks I have been calling for reason, we can already see it, yesterday we had a last meeting, compromises were made on both sides, so I have a good feeling that the budget will be adopted today."
