The Sofia Municipality has started renewing road markings in the city, with an emphasis on pedestrian crossings, streets and boulevards.

The activities assigned by the Sofia Municipality started from the main boulevards and the busiest pedestrian crossings. The Mayor of Sofia, Vasil Terziev, stressed the importance of the project for improving the city's infrastructure.

New markings have already been installed on key transport arteries such as the boulevards “Tsar Osvoboditel“, “Hristo Botev“, “Skobelev“, part of “T. Kableshkov“, “Parteny Nishavski“ and others.

In cooperation with the “Traffic Police“ department at the SDVR, Sofia Municipality has conducted inspections and identified additional measures to secure a number of pedestrian paths. These measures include: installing lighting in places where it is missing, anti-parking posts before and after the pedestrian path in some locations.

The paths for which these additional measures are planned include those on the boulevards “Lomsko Shose“, “Todor Aleksandrov“, “Gotse Delchev“, “Cherni Vrah“, as well as on the streets “Filip Avramov“ and “Samara“.

The new marking uses reflective beads, which significantly improve visibility, especially at night and in bad weather conditions. For pedestrian crossings, thermoplastic with a minimum thickness of 2.5 mm is applied, which guarantees a durability of about 4 to 5 years.

A pedestrian traffic light system is to be built in place of the existing pedestrian crossing on “Gotse Delchev“ Blvd. at “Hubcha“ St., for which a project has already been prepared.

Also, a new “Zebra“ marking with white paint and reflective beads will be applied to existing pedestrian crossings on “Lomsko Shose“ Blvd. at “Sava Filaretov“ St., “Todorini Kukli“ at “Khan Sevar“ Str. and others. Renovation is also planned at the roundabout between “Okolovrasten pat“ and “Cherni Vrah“ Blvd., as well as at “Ploschad na aviatsata“.

It is planned to renew the pedestrian paths in front of all schools and kindergartens in Sofia before the start of the school year.
