1,000 acres of peaches burned near Sliven

The fire was brought under control by seven fire brigade teams

A fire burned over 1,000 acres of peach plantations, stubble, and part of fields yesterday afternoon, near the Sliven quarter "Rechitsa", BNT reported.

The fire was brought under control by seven fire brigade teams - five from Sliven and two from Yambol and Radnevo.

By order of the regional governor and the mayor of the municipality, tractors and excavators were brought in from private companies, which made clearings to contain the fire.

Part of the burned gardens were abandoned and the dry grass, trees, and strong winds helped the fire spread.

The causes of the fire are being clarified. The fire site is being monitored for recurrence.
