Joining the Eurozone is not a risk for Bulgaria. Adopting the euro can only be a powerful accelerator of our economic growth. This was stated by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Innovation and Growth Tomislav Donchev at the discussion “The Eurozone - new opportunities and challenges“. It is organized by the Ministry of Innovation and Growth and is part of the information campaign of the Ministry of Finance and the Bulgarian National Bank for the introduction of the euro in our country from January 1, 2026.

“The transition from the present to the future is full of prejudices. I am not saying that our future is not associated with risks. There are many of them. Both humanity and democracies around the world are threatened by many dangers - the security environment has deteriorated, societies are highly fragmented, climate change, environmental pollution. However, the adoption of the euro is not among them,“ Donchev was categorical.

According to him, complex public systems such as the economy are built on trust, and the euro as a currency generates such. Deputy Prime Minister Donchev gave the example of the German mark, which was a greater symbol than even the German flag. “In the 1990s in Eastern Europe, the mark was actually the second official currency precisely because of trust. And Germany gave up this benchmark to adopt the euro“, he also said.

At the beginning of the discussion, Deputy Prime Minister Donchev presented the artificial intelligence MIR@, which will support the communication of the Ministry of Innovation and Growth with citizens and businesses.

The event was also attended by Yonko Chuklev, financial and economic analyst and vice-chairman of the “Professional Association for Robotics and Automation“ (PARAi). He emphasized that the introduction of the euro will help Bulgaria attract smart people and investments. “The euro will become a platform for growth, with which in 2030 we will boast that we are a medium-sized European economy“, he also said.
