There are two protests today. One is in defense of the woman giving birth, who claims that she was slapped and insulted during her birth in the "Maichin Dom".

The other protest is in defense of Dr. Irena Shikova, who personally notified the "Medical Supervision" to conduct an objective inspection of the case and has withdrawn from practice until the inspection is completed.

“Usually, when there is a complaint, even in the medical institution, patients turn to our association. In this case, we have not had a complaint from this patient yet“, he said in “Face to Face“ on bTV Plamen Taushanov, Chairman of the Bulgarian Association for the Protection of Patients.

„I am not aware of the patient having notified the competent authorities. As of today, she may have entered the medical facility for examination. This happens 10 days later“, Taushanov pointed out.

„There are quite unusual things here. Usually the patient complains immediately during treatment, before discharge or after, but not after 10 or more days. It is not usual for a colleague to represent the woman in front of the media. It is also not usual for there to be no appeal to such an organization as us, which can provide her with assistance“, explained Plamen Taushanov.

According to him, in this case, in the absence of medical error, where there is fault, causal relationship, harm to the woman – this case concerns more ethical issues.

“The main problem in our country is that there are no so-called protocols of conduct – for specific diagnoses what the doctor should immediately do in the diagnosis and treatment. There are recommendations that are not followed. This issue must be very clearly spelled out, because it concerns both the safety of the patient and that of the doctor“, believes Taushanov.
