Residents of Devin blocked the main road to Smolyan and Krichim

The protests are against the lack of water in the resort town and Aleksandrovo

Residents of Devin blocked the main road to Smolyan and Krichim in protest against the annual water regime, which is introduced every summer in the resort town, NOVA reported.

There was also a protest against the lack of water in the Haskovo village of Aleksandrovo. People claim that they have been without water for several months. The village is supplied by an outdated water supply system that serves four settlements in three different municipalities. The problem is long-standing.

After a protest in the fall of 2023, the caretaker government allocated funds to replace the pipes, but so far the money has not arrived, the Haskovo Regional Administration announced.

Due to frequent breakdowns in the old water supply system, residents remain without water most of the time.

“I don't have a gram of water. Are you asking me how I push the wheelchair from here... Should I bathe him, should I wash myself? My son is disabled“, said Kichka Minkova, one of the protesters.

“Last year they supposedly allocated 5 and a half million – where is this money? In the 21st century, we don't have water – we are in the eurozone, we are in the EU, and there is no water. Water carriers with mirrors... What does this look like?!“, asked another protester.
