There is a need for professional leadership in the Ministry of Interior, which can balance political priorities with the realities on the ground. The lack of a Secretary General is a serious problem and a direct blow to the effectiveness of the ministry. This opinion was expressed in the studio of “Wake Up” on "Nova TV" by former Minister of Interior and Military Affairs Valentin Radev.
"The fact that there is no Secretary General of the Ministry of Interior is a problem. There must be such a person and the minister must lean on him. The professional leadership of the Ministry of Interior must support the political so that many issues that have been circulating in the public space recently can be resolved. There are prepared people in the system who can take this position," he emphasized.
"I wish it would continue to be as calm as it is. Let's not feel the Ministry of Interior so constantly in the news. It is present there, but not as urgently as before. Every government brings stability, and when it has power, the system calms down," he commented on the work of the Ministry of Interior.
In his words, the criticisms directed at the Ministry of Interior system are due to "the great demands we have". "Even when I was Minister of Interior, I noticed that we criticize them a lot, but we all want more police officers. This means that there is a hidden trust in the Ministry of Interior".
According to him, people do not realize how safe a country we are and this is partly due to the Ministry of Interior. "Currently, Bulgaria is one of the safest countries not only in the region, but also in Europe".
According to Radev, the Ministry of Interior is often burdened with responsibilities and demands that are not entirely its own, but that give rise to many expectations. “For example, road safety — the Ministry of Interior cannot be solely responsible for everything on the roads. It only controls. Where is the Ministry of Transport?“, he asked.
