An accident near Shumen forced changes in traffic in the direction of Sofia from the Belokopitovo junction on the Sofia - Varna road (I-4) for several hours last night, reported Senior Inspector Desislav Raychinov from the Regional Directorate (RD) of the Ministry of Interior in Shumen, quoted by dariknews.bg.
The signal that a traffic accident had occurred on the "Hemus" motorway near the village of Gradishte was received by the operational duty unit of the RDMR - Shumen. According to initial reports, a truck traveling in the direction of Varna crossed a dividing barrier and entered the oncoming lane, where it hit a car traveling in the direction of Sofia.
Three people were traveling in the car, one woman needs medical attention and has been transported to the Multidisciplinary Hospital for Active Treatment (MBAL) in Shumen.
The driver of the "Iveco" truck, a 45-year-old man, was tested with a technical means for alcohol. His sample was negative. The driver of the "Mercedes" car, a 35-year-old man, was tested with a technical means for alcohol and his sample was negative. He and a small child traveling in the car were also taken to the MBAL - Shumen. There is no information so far that they were injured, reported St. Inspector Raychinov.
Drivers of vehicles should strictly follow the instructions of police officers, the police reminded.
A total of 162 serious traffic accidents were registered in 2024 in Shumen region, in which 183 road users were injured. 47 serious traffic accidents occurred in the region in the period from December 1, 2024 to April 30, 2025.
