A partial state of emergency has been introduced in the municipality of Topolovgrad due to a large fire that cannot be controlled for now, the Bulgarian National Radio reported.

The emergency situation is for the land of the village of Orlov dol. The element is spreading quickly and is threatening agricultural properties and plantations, Mayor Bozhin Bozhinov wrote on Facebook. Firefighters have been mobilized, as well as a volunteer formation. The population has been warned of a possible danger of gassing and other incidents.

The fire initially broke out in the area of the village of Vladimirovo and affected uninhabited buildings and inhabited property. About 600 acres of mixed dry grass, stubble and forest have burned. At the moment, there is no direct danger to the residents of the village.

The fire is already developing in a northwesterly direction, far from the village. The inaccessible terrain and strong winds are making it difficult to extinguish. 10 teams from the fire departments from Harmanli, Topolovgrad, Haskovo, Simeonovgrad and Svilengrad are on site. Firefighters have also been called in from Stara Zagora to help.

The regional governor, Dr. Stefka Zdravkova, is in constant contact with the various services.

If necessary, assistance will be requested from the army and the Maritsa East Thermal Power Plant today, the regional governor announced.

The fire has been localized near the village of Marulevo, BNT reported. The area affected is about 300 acres. Of these, about 100 acres are forests - state, private and municipal property.

Smoldering fires remain, and teams are on duty on site.

A bulldozer is building mineralized strips along the periphery to stop any possible spread.

The fire has been localized near the Sliven villa area "Batmish". 400 acres have been affected by the element. The fire has moved towards the village of Chintulovo, but has been brought under control. Fortunately, no people or houses were injured. Many volunteers joined the extinguishing. However, the police cordoned off the perimeter and did not allow those of them who are not well equipped to participate in extinguishing the flames.
