New details have emerged about the fiery inferno in Sredets, which turned the sky over the city black in broad daylight.
The BG-ALERT system was activated for the second time in the city of Sredets, following the large fire raging in a plastics workshop.
The announcement calls on citizens to immediately evacuate to the "St. St. Cyril and Methodius" high school.
There is information about one person being gassed, BNT reported.
The plastics factory has caught fire. The fire broke out shortly after 3:20 p.m. today, and the huge flames have completely consumed tons of raw materials that were scattered in the yard. As a result of the fire, the city has been gassed.
"This is a disaster! Let's not be bad prophets, but it cannot be extinguished until everything is reduced to ashes," said local residents, quoted by "Flagman".
The huge fire in the warehouse in Sredets is growing.
The flames have consumed over 10 acres – actually the entire site, and minutes ago the fire due to the strong wind moved towards the city.
"It moved towards the city a little while ago, the firefighters are trying to put it out, but hopefully the wind doesn't change direction to send it to the gas station next door“, local residents comment.
Meanwhile, a BG Alert has been launched for the Sredets region, warning people with respiratory problems and children to stay indoors with the windows closed.
"You can't breathe! Every year the same thing happens. It's time for this plant to be moved out of the city. Mayor Ivan Kichev to act, not make excuses.
Only 4-5 people work there. "There's no point in us all enduring this terror," insisted local residents.
Apocalyptic sight
At the scene of the fire, bags full of raw material, consisting of polyethylene granules, are literally flying in the air. There are already four fire engines and two fire trucks on site.
The firefighters are fighting the flames at the risk of their lives.
However, the picture is becoming increasingly explosive and shocking.
The causes of the fire
The good news is that there are no victims or injured. The company had four workers.
They claim that the fire was started by an empty glass bottle in the yard, which turned into a magnifying glass from the strong sun and high temperature.
By 3 p.m., the air temperature was 39 degrees. The workers swear that they did not light cigarettes or throw cigarette butts in the yard. They are convinced that it was the empty bottle that caused the chain chemical reaction, which is extremely dangerous for people's health.
The oldest fire station in the city was also called out - it looks more like a historical artifact.
The hot wind spread the flames throughout the area. This time people think that the plant will completely burn down.
The processing of imported polymers produces polyethylene film for greenhouses and construction, garbage bags and sacks, thermoformed packaging and cups, buckets and Styrofoam. The production itself, which was prepared for sale, is also explosive and at this moment the extinguishing continues.
