Vasil Tonchev: Rosen Zhelyazkov's candidacy would be extremely strong in the upcoming presidential elections

"It could isolate Delyan Peevski at the expense of the right-wing formations that say they would work with Rosen Zhelyazkov. However, such an option could tear apart the ruling majority," the sociologist commented.

The government will be stable at least until next spring. This was the forecast made to the Bulgarian National Radio by Vasil Tonchev, a sociological agency "Sova Haris".

"By the time the changes are made, the euro has entered and the effects of this reform are seen".

A serious restructuring of the political space is coming, which is causing such tense relations and scandals, he also believes.

"Things need to be rearranged because the main players have not found their place".

The big battle will be about who will be able to return to an active political position the people who currently do not want to cast their vote, Tonchev pointed out.
The voluntary exit from the government of Dogan's formation was a move caused by an impasse, he explained and added that the main goal of the party was to isolate Delyan Peevski.

"But he managed to build close relations with the ruling majority, which made Dogan's formation redundant.

Delyan Peevski's position has become very strong and continues to strengthen. This is what is disturbing for everyone around him in the political structure. Borisov, as an experienced politician, wants to have an option B in any case. Not to be dependent to such an extent. At the moment, no important decision can be made in the country without Delyan Peevski.

Borisov's attempts to find an option B, to try to build bridges to the so-called right-wing or urban formations, at least for now, have been unsuccessful. To a large extent, Delyan Peevski has managed to parry them".

Currently, the ruling majority is very stable, the sociologist emphasized.

"If there is a rift or parliamentary elections, it will only be if this majority disintegrates. And it can disintegrate along this line – the excessive dependence and power that stems from Delyan Peevski's position".

He also commented on Peevski's proposal to close the Anti-Corruption Commission.

"An open bluff. Everyone's goal is to have control over the commission. When they see that they are starting to lose this control, they start looking for other options and to exacerbate the situation so that they can change things".
He assumes that this commission will continue to work the way it is doing at the moment.

Tonchev also analyzes how the corruption tremors are affecting the PP-DB coalition.

"Tough! This is the basis of their political line. It's as if the prosecutor's office started working on these topics for the first time. But, on the other hand, it is obvious that it worked selectively. We live in a distorted reality".

He commented on the role of the president in the political life of the country.

"During his second term, he deeply entered the political processes. His request for further participation in political life is very clear".

The sociologist believes that Rosen Zhelyazkov's candidacy would be extremely strong in the upcoming presidential elections.

"It could isolate Delyan Peevski at the expense of the right-wing formations that have stated that they would work with Rosen Zhelyazkov".

However, the sociologist admits that such an option could tear apart the ruling majority.

Tonchev also explained that the protest energy in our country has not yet been channeled.

"Maybe they will restructure in the fall".
