Dimo Aleksiev was sentenced to 1 year and 6 months in prison under an initial general regime, a fine of 1,000 leva and a driver's license revoked for 2 years, bTV reports.
The Sofia District Court did not comply with the prosecutor's request, which insisted on a sentence of 2 years in prison under an initial strict regime, confiscation of the car for a period of 3 years and a fine of 3,000 leva.
The court's decision was delayed by nearly an hour. Upon entering the courtroom, the judge said: "I was late because I was watching the body camera recordings of the police officers who conducted the check again. I completely believe you that at the time the police arrived you were not driving and the car was not running, but there is evidence that a warm car was parked". However, it is not clear when and how this car was driven.
Dimo Aleksiev's defense said that it would appeal the decision in the Sofia City Court.
"Even during the trial itself, there were indications of where things would go, so this is not a surprise to anyone in practice. The question is what happens from here on. We continue to fight," said Dimo Aleksiev.
The actor was charged with driving with a blood alcohol content of 1.49 per mille, but he will not actually serve the time behind bars.
The time he spent in custody will be deducted from his sentence.
