Minister Mitov on the fires: Time is with us and we can breathe a sigh of relief

According to him, the most severe and difficult-to-reach fire was in Pirin. He emphasized that the firefighters managed to contain it and it did not reach the villages.

Time is with us and we can breathe a sigh of relief. We hope that the fire will be controlled and extinguished in the next few days. This was stated by the Minister of Interior Daniel Mitov to journalists.

He thanked all the teams from EU member states that joined our firefighters and helped extinguish the fires.

According to him, the most severe and difficult-to-reach fire was in Pirin. He emphasized that the firefighters managed to contain it and it did not reach the villages.

Minister Mitov specified that the Swedish aircraft will remain in our country throughout August. "The European Civil Protection Mechanism is working and European solidarity is taking on clear dimensions. When help is needed, we must all help each other," he added.

We will submit a report on how the decision of the National Assembly from July last year is being implemented. Actions have been taken, equipment is being purchased. A serious analysis is to be made of what equipment to purchase. Individual institutions must make an accurate analysis of the existing infrastructure, of the existing capabilities - where they can be upgraded, how many pilots can be trained quickly. Based on this analysis, it will be assessed whether and what equipment should be purchased, the Minister of the Interior added.

He added that the purchase of drones is also possible when it comes to high-mountain fires. "The decision on what exactly to purchase is a government decision. I don't know where Radev saw a collapse of trust. The General Directorate for Fire Safety and Population Protection has responded promptly to every single fire signal. In the most difficult moments, there were about 200 signals of fires, explained Minister Mitov.

All severe fires in the country have been localized, the fire in Pirin has been brought under control, said the director of the General Directorate for "Fire Safety and Population Protection" Chief Commissioner Alexander Dzhartov.
