The forest above the village of Ploski in Pirin has flared up again

The mayor calls for volunteers to help

A section of the fire in Pirin has flared up again, after it was brought under control thanks to heavy rain yesterday, bTV reported. While patrolling the perimeter, forestry officials in Sandanski detected the fire in the forest above the village of Ploski early this morning.

Forestry officials and firefighters are extinguishing the fire. It is burning about 3-4 km from the beginning of the "Pirin" National Park. The mayor of Ploski, Kiril Katardjiev, has called for volunteers to join the extinguishing, news.bg reported. People in the village say they smelled smoke at night. The teams are also patrolling the rest of the perimeter to prevent a new flare-up.

The fire continues to burn in the Ilindentsi area, but the fire is under control, Strumyani Mayor Emil Iliev told BTA. "It was expected. We were not completely reassured that after the rain that fell yesterday, the fire would be completely extinguished. In any case, there will be some kind of flare-up again", he commented. According to him, teams on duty have been monitoring the development of the fire and extinguishing it throughout the area since early morning.

"For now, we can say that all the outbreaks are under control. In such a situation, with such a large-scale fire and with fire, you can never be sure what will happen. For the moment, we are controlling the situation. People are on the ground, extinguishing the low-level outbreaks. We hope that the wind will not blow, because the forecasts are for increased temperatures and in any case the land will still be dry", Iliev also said.

The process of controlling the remaining outbreaks is also being controlled by municipal volunteers. For the moment, we do not need additional teams. If necessary, we will inform, he said.
