Employees of the capital's Seventh Police Department uncovered an arson attack on a commercial pavilion in the residential area "Mladost 1A", the Sofia Department of Internal Affairs announced.
On July 28, at around 4:00 p.m., a call was received by 112 about a fire in a pavilion at a market in the residential area "Mladost 1A". Forces of the State Fire Service and the police immediately arrived at the scene. The fire was extinguished, and an inspection was carried out at the scene, during which it was established that the fire was intentional.
Forensics and investigators have begun active work on the case. The very next day, the identity of the perpetrator was established, and on July 31, he was detained at a point for purchasing secondary raw materials in the residential area "Mladost".
The 66-year-old man was detained with a police measure for 24 hours. He is a criminal, known for theft and trading in excise goods without a stamp.
Pre-trial proceedings are underway in the case under Art. 330, para. 2 of the Criminal Code. After a report of the materials at the Sofia City Prosecutor's Office, he was charged and a preventive measure of "detention in custody" for up to 72 hours was imposed.
