After months of battle and numerous obstacles, it is already a fact: the illegal construction of the Iskar dam has been demolished.
This is what Sofia Mayor Vasil Terziev wrote on his personal Facebook page. Here is what else he shared:
"I know how difficult it was to get here. At every stage we faced new blockages – from various institutions, which instead of cooperating, were looking for a way to postpone; from the owner, who used all possible tricks to delay the procedure. There were many attempts to stop the removal, but we persevered.
This victory is not only for the administration, but for all of us who believe that the law should be the same for everyone. Thanks to consistency and perseverance, today the Iskar Dam is freed from a long-standing symbol of lawlessness.
With these photos, I want to remind all those who claimed that we were doing cheap PR and did not believe it: when we start something - we finish it. No matter whether it is the eradication of bad practices or a commitment to the development of the city. Even if it takes longer and unforeseen obstacles appear.
Sofia will not tolerate such outrages. We continue with firm actions - because our city is our common home, and it is our duty to keep it clean and fair. And we will act with the same determination in the next similar cases".
