Four killed in Algeria reconnaissance plane crash

The incident occurred near the coastal town of Jijel in the north of the country

Four people, including a Chilean citizen and two civil protection workers, died in a plane crash near the coastal town of Jijel in northern Algeria, authorities said, quoted by NOVA.

The national civil protection service said the plane was a reconnaissance plane manufactured by the Czech company Zlin and crashed at an airport, AFP reported.

“Following the crash of a Zlin reconnaissance and identification plane of the civil protection service today at the Ferhat Abbas airport in Jijel during a training mission, four people died in the line of duty,“ the statement said.

The service did not reveal the identity of the Chilean man, only indicating that he was was a pilot instructor.

She declined to name the fourth victim, but noted that he was an instructor at the Algerian APTATA aviation school.
