Analysts: If Borisov becomes president, he will have to leave GERB to someone else

The Anti-Corruption Commission acts in sync with other structures

The possible candidacies for the presidential elections from some formations are already a fact, although the elections are next year. Against this background, the question of the future of the government, as well as the parties and coalitions in parliament, is raised.

The topic was commented on in "This Sunday" by political scientist Assoc. Prof. Ivo Indjov and political analyst Georgi Harizanov.

"The storm will continue in the fall"

„The storm began at the beginning of the summer. At the moment there is a certain lull, but it will certainly continue in the fall, because we see that the government and certain institutional clubs are currently being put into action, were put into action against a political force. There were political arrests of mayors in Bulgaria, without giving priority to the judicial proceedings. There was a demonstration of force“, said political scientist Assoc. Prof. Ivo Indjov.

“If the PP-DB does not make any compromises, especially the PP, because they are at the center of the attacks - then it is no wonder that there will be new arrests and new actions to take over structures in local government. We saw that “DPS-New Beginning“ does such a thing“, he also pointed out.

Protest readiness

“I thought that the protest charge was completely dormant and destroyed, but what happened with the actions of the Commission for Combating Corruption, seemed to renew the protest energy. It is still too early to compare with 2020. But the electorate of these two formations is ready to protest. The question is whether wider segments of the population will recognize the problems of the rule of law and the rule of law, which are being trampled on, as their own, and there will be new protests. And it is possible that there will also be social protests against the backdrop of the price hike, speculation, manipulation, when introducing the euro. There are several interactions between these factors“, commented Ivo Indjov.

“There is always willingness. The very fact that 70% of people do not vote shows that the people who voted and are represented in parliament are only 30% of society, i.e. the other 70% may not be delighted with this. Despite this, they continue not to vote, for which I have no explanation. They grumble and they do not like anything, but they do not go to vote. And the power is in elections, with votes“, said political analyst Georgi Harizanov.

He specified that an arrested mayor is not a mayor.

Kotsev's arrest - "a grave outrage"

„And why Mr. Kotsev is in custody, I have no idea. This is a grave outrage“, he noted and asked why the mayor of Varna is in custody at all, while a man who tortured and killed a dog in Teteven has been released under house arrest.

„Disproportion. One crime was directly committed - with intent, with cruelty, there is visible evidence. As far as I know, the gentleman with the initials N.N. has admitted his guilt, but has been released under house arrest, while Mr. Kotsev, based on witness statements - some of which were withdrawn, due to a public procurement contract for which there is so much documentation in the CPC, in you, in all the institutions that have been around for a year, for example - is in custody“, commented Harizanov.

"The Anti-Corruption Commission acts in sync with other structures"

„The Anti-Corruption Commission, in my opinion, does not act on its own, it acts in sync with other structures and this gives rise to speculation that there is a dependency, that someone is behind these actions“, stated Assoc. Prof. Ivo Indjov.

„Suddenly, force is demonstrated, the mayor is arrested ostentatiously, all this makes the news. This ostentation, the noise of the arrest, as well as the other arrest in Sofia, suggests that there is some kind of scenario, some kind of background to what is happening,“ he added.

Expansion of the positions of “DPS-New Beginning“ through the GERB model

“In local government, there is an expansion of the positions of “DPS-New Beginning“, through the accession of mayors, through a strategy for the regions“, Indjov noted, adding that the model was taken from GERB.

“What happened was an open takeover of the DPS - just as corporate structures are taken over and now municipalities, local authorities are taken over. But this portends a bleak future for the original DPS. I do not see it having any decisive factors in political life anymore. Mr. Dogan has long since withdrawn from it, and whether he has any charisma, it no longer works,", pointed out Assoc. Prof. Indjov.

"Rumen Radev is late"

„If Borisov becomes president, he must vacate the leadership position in the GERB party, leave the party to someone else, and de-partyize. Unlike Rumen Radev, he must not play with political parties openly anymore. I do not think that Borisov will make this move, and I do not think that Borisov is ready, for a rather protocol position - to leave his post as party leader," believes Georgi Harizanov.

According to Assoc. Prof. Indjov, Rumen Radev is late with his political project - he still has a chance, but circumstances are not working for him at the moment. And the people are waiting for their savior who will punish the political elite.
