Captain Nikolay Ivanov Iliev is the serviceman who died in the serious accident on the junction for the village of Malomirovo yesterday afternoon, the Ministry of Defense announced. The officer died during transportation to the hospital in Yambol.
The accident occurred at around 16:50 on the main Elhovo - Burgas road in a collision between a UAZ military vehicle and a passenger car. "Captain Nikolay Ivanov Iliev and the driver Senior Sergeant Georgi Dimitrov Georgiev from the Land Forces were seriously injured in the incident," the press center of the Ministry of Defense announced.
Captain Iliev is a platoon commander and has been serving in the Bulgarian Army since January 23, 1995. The Ministry of Defense expresses its condolences to the relatives of the deceased officer.
Senior Sergeant Georgi Dimitrov Georgiev has been admitted for treatment at the Yambol General Hospital. His condition is not life-threatening, according to medical information. The driver of the car was also injured in the accident.
The two servicemen were performing their official duties at the time of the incident. An emergency team arrived at the scene of the accident, but Captain Iliev died in the ambulance on the way to the hospital.
The case is being investigated by law enforcement agencies. The alcohol and drug tests of the driver of the military vehicle are negative. Traffic in the area was temporarily restricted due to the investigation.
This is another serious accident on this section of the road network in the Yambol region in recent months.
