The teams fighting the fire in the Ilindentsi region are being evacuated, only helicopters are extinguishing it

The reason is that there is peak burning on one of the fire fronts, due to the wind. This requires the teams to be moved to a safe zone

The teams fighting the fire in the Ilindentsi region are being evacuated, announced the director of the Regional Directorate for "Fire Safety and Population Protection" (RDPBZN) in Blagoevgrad, Commissioner Valentin Vassilev.

The reason is that there is peak burning on one of the fire fronts, due to the wind. This requires the teams to be moved to a safe zone. The front, which is approaching the territory of the "Pirin" National Park, has been brought under control, thanks to helicopters, the director also said. There is peak burning on the other front. Currently, attempts are being made by helicopters to reduce the peak burning to a low level, so that it is safe for the teams and they can work, he specified.

According to the commissioner, the moment the burning becomes low level, the teams will be able to return and continue fighting the fire. All people have been evacuated and are safe. At the moment, only the helicopters are extinguishing the fire.

Commissioner Vassilev also said that an assessment of the situation is to be made in order to assess how the teams can continue their work on controlling the fire. So far, the measures we have taken have yielded very good results. We cannot influence the wind, which here, in the area of the fire, is almost constant, the director of the RSPBZN-Blagoevgrad also said, quoted by BTA.
