In July 2025, 50 people died as a result of road accidents in the country. One of the serious cases was on July 14 in Sofia, in which a driver who had used alcohol and drugs caused an accident, but according to our information was not detained.
This is stated by the Institute for Road Safety.
Such incidents remain out of public attention, and information about them is limited or concealed by the Ministry of Interior and the prosecutor's office. There is a feeling that this is being done in order to present that the measures taken by the government are leading to a positive result.
The ultimatum of Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov was obviously perceived by the Ministry of Interior, the State Agency for the Promotion of the Republic of Bulgaria and the RIA not as an incentive for real action, but as a signal for administrative cover-up. Administrative instinct has once again prevailed over real efforts to deal with the problem.
