Over 20 cars parked on "Patriarh Evtimiy" Str. in the center of Kyustendil were fined for violating the "Parking is prohibited" sign, injured drivers told BNR.
Among those fined were two official cars of the "Border Police".
The street, where there are offices of "Bulgarian Posts", the headquarters of the Bulgarian Socialist Party, has been parked for decades and no fines have been imposed, commented those living nearby.
The street has no exit, but is one of the busiest in the central part of the city. Parking is allowed on it around the clock. Recently, however, the Municipality has introduced sanctions for unauthorized parking and absentee parking - with a ticket on the windshield.
Due to the many complaints and signals about the introduced parking subscription system in the city, the Municipality uploaded proposals for changes to the traffic safety ordinance on its website for public discussion.
Parking spaces in the center, as well as in the neighborhoods, are not enough, because there are households with 2-3 or even more cars.
