Actor Dimitar Dimitrov has passed away at the age of 72, announced the Theater “Vasil Drumev“ in Shumen.
He graduated from the VITIZ “Krustyu Sarafov“ in 1978, he worked as an actor, stuntman, director and playwright.
He managed the theaters in Lovech (1990-1992) and Shumen (1992-1994, 2017-2022), and between 1994 and 2000 he taught at the National Academy of Dramatic Arts and Sciences.
In 1994 he received an invitation from INTERPLAY – Sydney, Australia, for international drama projects. He lectures at James Cook University and from 2000 to 2017 he lived in Canada, where he founded the International Talent Club and the Art Education Support Foundation.
Abroad, he actively promotes Bulgarian culture, organizes participation of Bulgarian artists in festivals and creates the competition “Dramaturgy for Children“.
Dimitar Dimitrov is the initiator of the festivals “New Bulgarian Drama“ (Shumen) and “The Magic Curtain“ (Targovishte), as well as the “Theater for Peace“ during the war in Bosnia.
His plays and productions have been performed both in Bulgaria and abroad.
The service will take place on August 18, 2025 at 1:30 p.m. in the church at the Sofia Central Cemetery.
