The escalating problem of the shortage of drinking water for the people requires immediate and decisive action by the state. Because if today at least half a million Bulgarians are affected by the water crisis, who have suffered from the failure to resolve the water problem, if the procrastination, postponement and transfer of the problem from one to another like a hot potato continues, tomorrow everyone will be at risk! This was written in his position by the leader of the DPS - Novo Nachalo Delyan Peevski.
„Therefore, the DPS-NOVO NACHALO demanded from the Chairperson of the National Assembly Natalia Kiselova to immediately convene a meeting of the parliamentary committee on the environment and water, to develop and adopt a decision of the National Assembly for an immediate, effective and categorical resolution of the systemic water crisis in the Republic of Bulgaria.
Solving the water problem represents one of the greatest challenges and the implementation of a decisive new beginning is necessary in order for it to be successful and beneficial for the people.
The balance sheet shows that today the most valuable resource - water is managed by four ministries, several secondary administrators, municipalities and commercial companies, who pass the ball to each other and this is one of the reasons for the result being that a critical mass of people in Bulgaria do not have unhindered access to drinking water.
The urgent actions that must be undertaken are drilling, suitability tests, new water sources, cleaning of water sources and water pipes leading to settlements, as well as replacement, repair and construction of the entire water supply network and irrigation systems for agricultural lands and industrial needs.
But since there is no centralized, working water management system in the Republic of Bulgaria, it is necessary to create a national water board, which would include representatives of all institutions and departments related to water resources management.
Such a structure can also guarantee the financial provision of all projects through the republican budget, European funding and attracting capital from the Bulgarian Development Bank.
In the 21st century, it is unacceptable for people to be faced with a catastrophic crisis - without access to drinking water and it is the responsibility of politicians and statesmen to build sound structures that will ensure that this will not happen again.
New "start systematically and unwaveringly follows its mission - a better life, security and protection for the people," Peevski's position also states.
