A famous Bulgarian photojournalist has passed away

Georgi Tsvetkov - Goshore, a legend of the photography department of "Trud"

Georgi Tsvetkov has passed away - a legend of the photography department of "Trud" in the years when the newspaper dictated the standards, Club "Z" announced.

However, he was a figure far beyond the boundaries of any editorial office - loved by the entire guild, one of the doyens of photojournalists in Sofia.

He was born in 1946 in Sofia. Drawing captivated him as a child. He discovered his passion for photography as a student, when he first picked up a "Bairett".

He graduated from the Photography and Printing College in the class of future names in this art. Among them are Rafi Marukyan, Alexander Malev and Petar Ganev - senior. Their teacher was the legendary Yanka Kyurkchieva.

His professional path began as a contributor to the newspapers "Uchitelsko delo" and "ZHP voin". The Panamanians - Georgi and Kolyo noticed the qualities of the young Tsvetkov and took him to the photo department of the newspaper "Narodna mladez". During this period, he collaborated with a dozen publications, including the newspaper "Studentska tribuna", "Srednosholsko zname" and the magazine "Bulgarian journalist".

Later in the newspaper "Kooperativno selo" Goshore developed as a photo storyteller of rural life. He travels around the country and shows through his unique perspective the traditions and everyday life in small, remote settlements.

He himself defines the 1970s - 1980s as his "bohemian-anarchist period". He has several clashes with the police, after disputes about the political regime.

One day, upon entering the editorial office, the editor-in-chief greets him with a letter from the State Security Service. In it, Tsvetkov is defined as an anarcho-fascist. Goshore leaves himself so as not to "tarnish the name of the editorial office".

After some self-isolation, he reappears on the professional field in the newspaper "Trud" with the advocacy of Kolyo Stavrev, who knows the merits and power of his photo reports. 33 years in the national daily newspaper follow. It reflects the turbulent events of the transition and the dark times of Mutren almost 24/7, but the leading thing about Goshore remains the attitude towards the truly simple and beautiful things in life.

Georgi Tsvetkov is a member of the Union of Bulgarian Journalists. He is the winner of the "Photo of the Year" prize of the Union of Bulgarian Journalists. He has dozens of awards from international and national competitions for photojournalism and artistic photography.

He is featured in the publication "The Great Photojournalists of Bulgaria (1960-1989)", whose author is the late photojournalist and photography teacher Tsvetan Tomchev.
