Just a few days ago, three drivers were sanctioned for speeding and unregulated racing on the capital's "Ring Road" - one of the places where illegal car races are organized in the evening, reports bTV.

Between the "Mladost" neighborhood and the village of German, drivers were caught driving dangerously and fast, and the Sofia District Prosecutor's Office has already initiated pre-trial proceedings for unregulated racing.

The reports of racing in the capital for the past 8 months are over 500, say the SDVR. However, not all of them are real. And the places where the most dangerous races are held are Blvd. „Bulgaria“, Blvd. „Vitosha“, Blvd. „Slivnitsa“, Blvd. „Lomsko Shose“, „Ring Road“ and the Eastern Expressway.

On August 8, the police intercepted a race between powerful cars on the „Ring Road“. According to the Ministry of Interior, the drivers are 21 and 24 years old. They have already been fined and questioned, and the owner of one of the cars has had violations in the past.

It was found that there was a penalty that had come into force for a previous violation of this type in 2023. Accordingly, we took away his license,” said Senior Insp. Georgi Georgiev from the SDVR.

According to the prosecutor's office, pre-trial proceedings have already been initiated. “There is not only evidence of illegal racing, but also of actions that grossly violate public order. Neglectful attitude to the law and traffic rules“, explained Nikolay Nikolaev, prosecutor at the SRP.

Dozens of clips of dangerous and fast driving have been published on social networks. In March, pop-folk singer Emrah published recordings of his car reaching 260 km/h in Sofia and racing with another powerful car. At that time, he stated that his car was driven by a potential buyer and uploaded the clip because he did not expect his car to be able to overtake the other.

On August 15, 2023, in broad daylight, cameras captured a race and drifts on the yellow cobblestones. Behind the wheel was 20-year-old Georgi Fikov, who had caused a serious accident months earlier.

In just 8 months in Sofia, over 80 racing tickets have been issued. According to police data, high-speed enthusiasts usually have little experience behind the wheel. In order to reduce racing, SDVR patrols also visit the places where such races most often occur every day.

Against this background, the number of races in 2025 is 30% less than last year.
