The acting Secretary General of the Interior Ministry Miroslav Rashkov will be proposed for the position during the meeting of the Council of Ministers on Wednesday. This was announced by Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov, who confirmed that President Rumen Radev has already given his preliminary consent to the nomination, Nova TV reported.

According to him, the proposal is based on three main motives: the good work of the professional leadership of the Interior Ministry, Rashkov's political neutrality and his potential to lead the structures of the Interior Ministry, staying "away from political squabbles".

Zhelyazkov explained that the procedure for key appointments requires prior coordination with the head of state in order to "synchronize the views of the president and the government" on important issues for the country.

"We have long sent the names to the presidential institution. The good news is that the president has agreed on these names and tomorrow, with a decision of the Council of Ministers, we will propose them to him", said the Prime Minister. He specified that on Wednesday, proposals for new ambassadors will also be made, which have also received Radev's approval.

„Our proposal is based on Rashkov's political neutrality and his potential to lead the structures of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, staying away from political squabbles”, said the Prime Minister.

The only post for which a decision from the head of state is still expected is that of chairman of the State Agency "National Security" (DANS). "We are still waiting for the president to make a statement regarding the coordination with the proposal for the chairman of the National Security Agency", added Zhelyazkov.

The Speaker of the Parliament Natalia Kiselova told journalists in Dolna Banya that with shared responsibility, when the government and the president have different political visions for how to develop the state's activities in certain sectors, it is normal to have contradictions. According to Kiselova, the prolonged political instability and sharp opposition that we have witnessed in recent years are among the reasons why people performing the functions remain in their posts.

A comment also came from the Minister of Internal Affairs Daniel Mitov. Speaking to journalists at the European Firefighting Championship in Dolna Banya, Mitov said: "Chief Commissioner Miroslav Rashkov is an experienced police officer, he has been performing the functions of the Chief Secretary of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for a year. Under his leadership, things are working well, so I have no doubts or remarks". Minister Mitov expressed hope that the controversy between the two institutions has already been resolved.
