Varna's Deputy Mayor for Finance Hristo Rafailov has been dismissed from his post, the press service of the Municipality in the city announced.
The reasons for his dismissal are not specified.
The announcement states that the order to terminate Rafailov's employment relationship is from today - August 29.
His duties will be distributed among the heads of the directorates that have been subordinate to him until now.
This is the second deputy mayor of Varna who is no longer in office, BTA notes. Dian Ivanov resigned in early May. At the time, he indicated that his reasons for leaving the post were personal and health-related. On July 8, Mayor Blagomir Kotsev was detained. The next day, the Sofia City Prosecutor's Office (SGP) announced that four people had been charged and detained for 72 hours in connection with an investigation into a corruption crime in Varna.
On July 11, the Sofia City Court began examining the preventive measures against Varna Mayor Kotsev, municipal councilors Yordan Kateliev and Nikolay Stefanov, and businessman Ivaylo Marinov, and a few hours later ordered "detention in custody" for the four. In the meantime, it became known that Blagomir Kotsev had appointed his deputy Pavel Popov as acting mayor, and his order was appealed by the Chairman of the Municipal Council, but confirmed by the Supreme Administrative Court. According to this order, Popov was appointed to act as mayor until August 31.
