"Defense - we are striving to return to international relations what existed until about ten years ago. We are not an offensive alliance - NATO and the EU. We are talking about defense."
This was stated to the Bulgarian National Radio by Valentin Radev, former Minister of the Interior and Deputy Minister of Defense, and currently Chairman of the Association of Ammunition Specialists.
In connection with Ursula von der Leyen's tour of 7 countries on the eastern flank of the EU and NATO, he pointed out that "we will be increasingly closer to the mechanisms of Europe" and "we see an acceleration of defense policy".
"Hopefully there will be a trilateral meeting and these killings in two neighboring, close countries will stop faster and the reconstruction of Ukraine will begin", Radev said in connection with possible talks in a trilateral format between the US, Russia and Ukraine.
As "good news" Valentin Radev defined the future construction of ammunition production facilities in our country. According to him, this will be a new impetus for our defense industry.
"This plant will start producing in 2-3, maximum 5 years", however, there will be a problem with the personnel for this high-risk production, the expert noted about the future production of 155-millimeter shells.
"In Europe, ammunition warehouses have literally been emptied. Bulgaria specializes in this production and that is the reason they come to us. "The"hunger" for gunpowder in Europe is very great and we will be one of the donors", commented Valentin Radev on the program "Above All".
"Delyan Peevski cannot be so all-powerful", he also emphasized on the topic of the appointments and statements of the head of state about the candidacy for the future head of SANS.
"Hopefully the president has arguments for this and can explain it well. Hopefully these doubts of the president will turn out to be incorrect.", pointed out Valentin Radev.
