If a window is broken in a building and no one fixes it, soon there will probably be no healthy ones left, said Sofia Mayor Vasil Terziev on Facebook in connection with another case of illegal dumping in the capital.

"This is the principle of "broken windows" - a theory according to which small manifestations of chaos such as vandalism, pollution or petty hooliganism, if not controlled, lead to more serious violations. When minor problems are tolerated, a feeling of disorder and impunity is created, which specifically makes people think: "If this is allowed, then everything is allowed", he explained and added that this is why immediate and decisive action must be taken.

Terziev said that the quick response of the Sofia Inspectorate and the "Vazrazhdane" district managed to prevent the expansion of an unregulated landfill. After signals from citizens, the teams cleared 13 tons of waste.

"Such effective actions are possible thanks to the responsible citizens of Sofia, who do not stand idly by and do not signal. We are working for a cleaner and tidier Sofia, but we rely on your helper to maintain order," said the mayor of the capital.
