Ivan Anchev on Von der Leyen's plane: Russian interference should be sought

According to him, it is high time to declare that the Russian Federation is an enemy of Bulgaria

The news about the GPS of the plane that Ursula von der Leyen was riding to the airport in Plovdiv that turned off has sparked worldwide comments.

"This is a very serious attack. This is definitely a malicious act. We can only assume the sources until the results of the investigation are out. Russian interference should be sought behind this", commented diplomat and co-chair of the Atlantic Council Ivan Anchev in "Denyat ON AIR".

In his words, this is a good occasion to show what the operational capabilities of the Russian Federation, its special services, are.

"To show the vulnerabilities that Bulgaria has as a country and an important component of NATO's eastern flank. Yes, this is an attack. It is directly aimed at Bulgaria and, more broadly, at NATO. Today, the Atlantic Council of Bulgaria came out with a sharp position that the clear position of the Bulgarian government is missing. Once again, we are learning something that happened in Bulgaria from abroad," Anchev told Bulgaria ON AIR.

According to him, it is high time to declare that the Russian Federation is an enemy of Bulgaria.

"We should not make attempts to neglect such type of actions by an enemy force. We must clearly and categorically say where the threats come from. We must have a countermeasure system that protects the security of Bulgarian flights," the diplomat insisted.

"When all investments of the German company "Rheinmetall" in Bulgaria begin, we will yet witness such type of dangerous actions that can be classified as sabotage," Anchev predicted. The place and role of the services are key, the guest is categorical.

"This role is in protecting national interests, national security and civil society. Specifically regarding the place and name of Mr. Denev - I want to see more active actions by the National Security Agency in terms of countering the Russian threat in Bulgaria. With the jamming of the signal of Von der Leyen's plane, we saw that these elements freely play out their actions. The services must foresee everything. There are specific methods of analysis. In the Ministry of Interior, it has always been clear in operational work who was at the top of the pyramid. The Secretary General does not have these 100 days of credit for trust, he must start showing results immediately," Anchev emphasized.
