In the coming months, traffic police will monitor pedestrian behavior with increased attention, announced Chief Inspector Lachezar Bliznakov in connection with the stricter rules that have come into force.

These include a ban on using a phone while crossing a pedestrian crossing. There is no data yet on fines under the new rules, BNR specifies:

"All pedestrians should know that the fines for the violations they have committed have been significantly increased. The rules have been changed, so all road users are affected. There is a season coming up from September-October, in which our attention, the emphasis on detecting pedestrian violations is quite high in view of the increase in accidents involving pedestrians.

A little over 3,700 cases of speeding were recorded over the weekend, with 470 of them through the detection of average speed in certain sections:

"These are not startling figures, our cameras, which operate daily throughout the country, record many more violations."
