The Sofia City Court decides whether to release Varna Mayor Blagomir Kotsev from custody. A week ago, his defense asked the magistrates to release him.
Blagomir Kotsev was detained in early July, and the charge against him is participation in an organized criminal group for the purpose of bribery. Two municipal councilors were also detained with him, but so far there is no evidence that they are requesting a change in their detention measures.
In the first days after Kotsev's arrest, the investigation was based on the testimony of the former deputy mayor of Varna, Dian Ivanov. He later retracted his words and explained that his testimony was taken under pressure.
So far, several protests have been organized in Varna in support of Blagomir Kotsev. Tomorrow, his supporters will also gather in front of the Courthouse in Sofia.
