The American company Google has announced the opening of a data center in the British town of Waltham Cross (Hertfordshire) southeast of London, as part of a two-year investment program of 5 billion British pounds (6.8 billion USD).

According to a statement from the technology giant, the modern data center “will help meet the growing demand for Google's artificial intelligence (AI)-based services, such as Google Cloud, Workspace, Search and Maps“, which are used daily by people, businesses and government organizations across the country. More than 250 companies participated in the construction of the center. Most of them are British.

In this way, Google “strengthens its position in the United Kingdom and helps the kingdom realize its potential in the field of artificial intelligence to grow the economy by 400 billion pounds (545 billion USD) by 2030, as well as improve the quality of basic social services“, said Ruth Porat, president and chief investment officer of Alphabet and Google.

Google's investments are expected to create over 8,000 jobs in the British Isles annually.
