What does it feel like to bathe in a Roman pool from more than two centuries ago, full of mineral water? We will find out if the idea of the Burgas municipality to build a pool with healing water on top of an existing one from more than two centuries ago is realized. The project envisages the construction of a modern facility in the "Vetren" district on the archaeological remains of a Roman pool, the excavations of which have already been completed, Nova Telesia specifies.
In order for the pool to be built, a permit from the Ministry of Culture is required.
In the Aqua Kalide area, there are four mineral water springs with a temperature of over 42 degrees, which will be used to fill the planned facility for use by residents and guests of the region. The conceptual design is already ready, the municipality announced, and with a positive opinion from the state, the pool will be built in about 7 months.
The archaeological and spa complex “Aque calide – Burgas mineral baths“ is located just a few kilometers from the center of Burgas. The place, which is rich in healing water, has been known for centuries, and over the years has been visited by historical figures who left gifts as a sign of gratitude for the relief they received from the mineral water.
"It is even said that Empress Anastasia left her red robe - her most noble garment, in gratitude for the healing she received from the spring. Of course, the most famous person is Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent - there is a historical source about him that he came here to receive treatment for his gout, says Assoc. Prof. Dr. Radovesta Stewart from Burgas State University "Prof. Dr. Asen Zlatarev".
The mineral water spring is located in the middle of the archaeological complex. "About 5 years ago we built a new demonstration and exhibition center. But during the discovery, research, construction - the idea came to create an outdoor pool, since everything else is currently inside. That's why we started additional research," says Associate Professor Stewart.
After the archaeological research is completed and the discovered artifacts are preserved, the municipality expects support for its idea from the state.
