The Sofia Municipality announced that it has caught up in a little over a year the backlog of replacing old solid fuel stoves with more environmentally friendly alternatives, funded under the LIFE program of the European Union. A total of 2,700 households have already been approved, of which 1,300 in 2024 and 2025. The deadline for applying for free replacement of the appliances expires on May 31, BNR recalls.

Contracts for the installation of new heating appliances have already been concluded with 2,327 of the qualified candidates under the "Life" program of the European Union. Currently, intensive installation work is underway in 400 households in the neighborhoods of "Abdovitsa", "Dimitar Milenkov", "Filipovtsi", "Trebich", "Obelya", "Malinova Dolina" and the villages of Voluyak, Mramor, Chepintsi, Negovan, Svetovrachane, Kubratovo, Busmantsi, Kazichene, Krivina, Vladaya and Marchaevo. Installation work is to be commissioned in another 500 households by the end of May. So far, nearly 3,000 households have applied for the project.

A total of 2,626 new heating appliances have been installed, of which 2,013 are air conditioners, 577 are pallet-based appliances and 36 are natural gas appliances.

The Sofia Municipality reminds that the "Life" program is only for the neighborhoods and settlements on the outskirts of Sofia.

Households from all other regions have the opportunity to apply for free replacement of appliances under the "Environment" program until the end of 2029.
