The rapidly changing geopolitical situation in the world makes the topic of bunkers relevant again. Switzerland is also considering giving new life to the network of underground bunkers with built-in mortars. The last such bunker was discovered in 2003, but it was closed just a few years later. The reason the Swiss authorities closed the bunkers was for security reasons. However, they leave the option of reopening them.
Six bunkers have already been sold to private individuals. One of them was built in the municipality of Trinh in 1988 and has now been turned into a museum.
However, mortar bunkers are obsolete, as they are stationary and can be easily destroyed by a targeted strike.
As of 2023, the Swiss army will no longer sell old bunkers. The reason is the war in Ukraine.
