The US will deal a blow to US industry by raising tariffs on steel and aluminium from 25% to 50%, said He Yunqiang, an official with the Ministry of Commerce of the People's Republic of China.

“Another increase in tariffs on steel, aluminium and their derivatives by the US will not only harm other countries but also itself,“ she said. “It will be useless for maintaining industrial security.“

According to He Yunqiang, the tariff hike will seriously disrupt global production and supply chains. China urges the United States to abide by economic laws and stop abusing the concept of national security, she added.

Earlier, US President Donald Trump announced an increase in tariffs on steel imports from 25% to 50%. It is also reported that the tariff increase will also affect US aluminum imports.
