In the Sofia Municipality, 130 multi-family residential buildings will be renovated with funds from the Recovery and Sustainability Plan. 40 of the buildings will be renovated under Stage 1 of the Plan by the end of June 2026, and the rest are under the second stage. This was announced by the Deputy Minister of Regional Development and Public Works Dora Yankova at a working meeting today with mayors and representatives of 14 district administrations in Sofia that have concluded energy efficiency contracts.

The purpose of the meeting was to clarify the progress of the implementation of the program in the largest municipality in Bulgaria, any technical and administrative issues that have arisen, problems in the implementation and compliance with the set schedules. “We managed to save the European funds for the renovation of the buildings and save the national resource, which we can invest in a new energy efficiency program. It is expected to be launched within two months“, the deputy regional minister also said to the representatives of the local government. She called on the regional mayors not to confuse the renovation program under the BDB's PVU and the second national energy efficiency program, which will also be financed from the state budget. “In order to avoid chaos and confusion, a precise structuring is being prepared“, noted Dora Yankova.

“The ministry and the mayors are in the same boat on the implementation of the program, and our goal is for the money to reach the people and for their quality of life to change. I am glad that in the 14 metropolitan districts you have strained the potential of the administrations and we will complete the construction within the set deadlines. People will remember you for a lifetime because you have changed their homes, their standard of living, so be among them, help them and respond to their questions“, Deputy Minister Yankova also commented.

The representatives of the local authorities thanked Deputy Minister Yankova and the team at the ministry, which works on the procedure, for the dialogic nature, good communication and open doors in resolving the various cases.
