The District Court – Lovech found a 25-year-old man guilty of murder committed in a particularly painful way for the victim and with particular cruelty.
The case dates back to late 2021, when the body of a 16-year-old girl was found in an abandoned building in the town of Lukovit. It was determined that she had been strangled.
After considering the written and oral evidence collected and presented in the case and based on the law, the expanded panel of the District Court – Lovech found the defendant guilty and sentenced him to 19 years in prison. The sentence must be served under strict conditions, and the time the man was in custody will be deducted from it.
He is being charged with this crime for the second time, after being convicted of it a little over a year ago. However, the sentence did not enter into force, as the judge-rapporteur in the case died before the reasons for it were prepared. This required the entire criminal proceedings to be conducted anew by another panel of the General Court - Lovech. The sentence is subject to appeal and protest before the General Court - Veliko Tarnovo within 15 days from today.
