According to indictments filed by a prosecutor at the Sofia District Prosecutor's Office, two men - aged 48 and 38 - have been sentenced to prison for stealing 830 meters of electrical cable. This was announced by the press center of the prosecutor's office.

On January 9, 2024, from around 2:50 to around 3:20 a.m., from the yard of a telecommunications service provider in Sofia, the defendants T.Y. and T.G. stole 830 meters of electrical cable worth 26,882.04 leva. They cut part of the fence, took the cable, loaded it into a truck and left the scene. Previously, T.G. illegally took the truck from an unguarded parking lot in Sofia, the prosecutor's office added.

The two men committed the crimes in conditions of dangerous recidivism, as they were sentenced to “imprisonment“ for identical acts. During the investigation, expert reports were made and witnesses were questioned. The pre-trial proceedings ended with the filing of indictments against the two in court.

The panels of the Sofia District Court found the perpetrators guilty of the charges brought against them. T.Y. was sentenced to “imprisonment“ for a period of two years, which he must effectively serve under an initial strict regime. T.G. was sentenced to “imprisonment“ for a period of two years and six months, which he should also effectively serve under an initial strict regime.

The sentences are subject to appeal before the Sofia City Court.
