Smuggled gold worth over 150,000 euros seized at the Kapitan Andreevo Police Station

Nearly 1 kg of gold items hidden by two passengers were seized by customs officers at the Kapitan Andreevo Police Station during an inspection of a bus entering the country from Turkey.

On January 27, 2026, at around 9:30 p.m., a bus with Turkish registration arrived at the checkpoint. The vehicle, driven by a Turkish driver, was carrying 10 passengers from Turkey via Bulgaria to Kosovo. After a risk analysis, the bus was selected for a thorough customs inspection. During a personal examination of two of the passengers - citizens of Kosovo - 622.80 grams of jewelry, rings, necklaces, medallions, earrings, bracelets were found in the inside pockets of one man, and 289 grams in the jacket of the other. According to the expert examination, the discovered jewelry is made of 21-carat gold with a total weight of 911.80 grams, worth 152,270.60 euros.

A pre-trial investigation has been initiated into the case by an investigating customs inspector under the supervision of the District Prosecutor's Office - Haskovo.
