A story about a good example comes from Montana. Three tenth-graders - Erik Atanasov, Nikola Dimitrov and Ivaylo Petrov - did not hesitate to help an elderly man in trouble and helped catch a thief.
The boys were on their way to school when they heard 80-year-old Nikolay Georgiev calling for help, "Nova TV" reported. Shortly before that, the man had been robbed - a stranger managed to take out his wallet unnoticed and run away. The students saw the young man running away and immediately went after him. Although they were unable to catch up with him and lost sight of him, they reported the incident and helped the police with information about what had happened. Thanks to their observation and quick reaction, the perpetrators were identified and detained.
Later it became clear that the stolen wallet contained all the money of the elderly man - his just withdrawn pension. The amount was returned to him in full. “They returned everything to me, down to the last penny“, shared Nikolay Georgiev, who is deeply moved by the boys' action.
For their courage and civic valor, the three students received certificates from the Montana police. They were also awarded by the management of the Second Secondary School where they study. The Ministry of Interior's Office emphasized that their action is an example for their peers and a cause for pride for their families.
The boys themselves accept what happened as something completely normal. According to them, everyone should react this way when they see a person in trouble. "I wouldn't call myself a hero, but there is a sense of pride that we at least tried," says Ivaylo Petrov.
