A scam involving fake police officers was uncovered in Pavlikeni, BTA reports.

The investigation has gathered sufficient evidence that in April last year, a 36-year-old from Gorna Oryahovitsa, in complicity with a friend from Vetovo, deceived a resident of Pavlikeni by posing as police officers. They told her that they would help her arrest people who wanted to scam her.

In this way, they managed to get 2,600 leva from the woman. Yesterday, the 36-year-old man was brought in as a defendant. He is currently in prison in Lovech for another crime.

The police officers are also investigating a scam under the pretext of carrying out renovation work. Yesterday, a resident of Pavlikeni sought police assistance.

She explained that between March 19-22, a stranger promised her that he would carry out repairs in her apartment. The man demanded that the amount be paid in advance and the complainant handed him 14,000 leva and 1,000 euros.

After taking the money, the man never appeared again. Pre-trial proceedings have been initiated.
