A new case of transporting undeclared gold of over 1.7 kg was prevented by customs officers at the Kapitan Andreevo customs checkpoint during an inspection of a truck leaving the country.

On 13.04.2026, a tractor with a semi-trailer with Turkish registration arrived at the checkpoint. The driver - a Turkish citizen - presented documents for the goods being transported from the Netherlands through Bulgaria to Turkey. After a risk analysis, the vehicle was selected for a thorough customs inspection. During the control actions, in a factory cavity under the steering wheel cover, customs officers discovered a package containing a cast of yellow metal. According to the expert's expertise, the casting is made of 14-carat gold weighing 1707.97 grams worth 128,815.15 euros.

A pre-trial investigation has been initiated into the case by an investigating customs inspector under the supervision of the District Prosecutor's Office - Haskovo.
Just ten days ago, customs officers at the Kapitan Andreevo Police Station seized 6 gold bars and gold bracelets worth a total of nearly 100,000 euros.
