During the specialized operation of the Directorate of the Bulgarian Anti-Money Laundering and Drug Enforcement Administration and the National Security Agency, an organized crime group for money laundering and drug distribution was neutralized.
Over 67 kg of marijuana, over 600 ammunition and nearly 600,000 euros in cash were discovered, informed the Chief Secretary of the Ministry of Interior Georgi Kandev.
The police operation was carried out on April 23, 2026.
The joint activities of the two services lasted nearly four months.
A pre-trial investigation has been initiated under the supervision of the Sofia City Prosecutor's Office. The SGP has brought four individuals as defendants.
The pre-trial proceedings were initiated on 23.04.2026 under the conditions of urgency with search and seizure and are being conducted by the Directorate of Criminal Investigation and Prevention-Ministry of Internal Affairs under the leadership and supervision of the SGP. With the ruling of 26.04.2026, the Sofia City Court (SCC) took a measure of preventive detention in custody in relation to two defendants, and a third is under house arrest.
The court shared the prosecutor's arguments that there is sufficient evidence that leads to a conclusion of a reasonable assumption of the authorship of the crimes for which the defendants have been brought. The SCC accepted that there is also a real danger of committing a crime by each of the defendants.
With regard to one of them, the court ordered house arrest due to health problems. The rulings of the Sofia City Court of Appeal are not final and are subject to appeal before the Sofia Court of Appeal.
The fourth accused is being sought.
The investigation into the case continues by the Directorate General of the Ministry of Internal Affairs under the leadership and supervision of the Sofia Police.
The three detainees traveled from Sofia to Kyustendil in different cars.
During the investigation, 10 properties and vehicles were searched.
Over 30 kg of marijuana were found in one of the cars, and over 30 more hashish and marijuana in a private home in Sofia. The amount of nearly 600,000 euros and over 600 ammunition for firearms of different calibers were found at an address in Kyustendil.
