Hungarian-British writer David Szalai has won the 2025 Booker Prize for his novel 'Flesh', the awards website announced.
According to jury chairman Roddy Doyle, Szalai, who was already nominated for the prize in 2016, receives the prize for “an exceptional, unique novel - a dark book that is a joy to read“, the source reported.
The statement specified that Szalai is the first Hungarian-British author to receive the award.

The book is characterised by its laconic prose, spanning decades, and tells the story of an emotionally detached man "entangled in a series of events beyond his comprehension".
Six authors were nominated for the 2025 prize. In addition to Soloy, the shortlist also included Indian author Kiran Desai with her new novel "The Solitude of Sonia and Sunny", British author Andrew Miller with his novel "The Earth in Winter", American Susan Choi, author of "Fenerce", Benjamin Markowitz with his novel "The Rest of Our Lives" and Katie Kitamura with her novel “Audition“.
