90th anniversary of the birth of Prof. Julian Vuchkov

The colorful TV presenter and literary critic passed away seven years ago

On January 31 this year, the 90th anniversary of the birth of the popular TV presenter, literary and theater critic Prof. Julian Vuchkov is celebrated.

He was born on January 31, 1936 in the city of Varna. He graduated from high school in Haskovo and theater studies at VITIZ in 1958. He defended his doctoral dissertation at the Institute of Literature at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences on the topic “Bulgarian Dramaturgy (1878 – 1944)“. He headed the directing department at the Actor's Creative House in 1959 – 1969, and from 1969 to 1990 he was the editor-in-chief of the magazine “Theatre“.

He worked for many years at Channel 1 (in the program “Every Sunday“), 7 days TV, where he created the column “Food for the Soul“ - a program dedicated to the problems and philosophy of human existence. He hosted his first program “Mind Enslaves, Mind Reigns“ on Channel 2001 for three years. Later he hosted the program “Reflections and Passions“ on SKAT TV. Until February 2009, Vuchkov hosted the program “Times and Manners“ on TV2.

At the end of February 2009, Yulian Vuchkov was removed from TV2, and his show "Times and Manners" was taken off the air. He was subsequently transferred to BBT TV, where he aired for 4 months, and then left the channel.

In March 2014, his show "Times and Manners" was transferred to Eurocom TV. Prof. Vuchkov is the author of about 150 publications in the press and more than 20 books in the field of artistic culture and ethics. He has made approximately 150 appearances in television programs and 50 appearances on the Bulgarian National Radio.

In May 2006, Julian Vuchkov received an award for lifetime achievement from the Union of Bulgarian Writers, and a year later he was awarded the high award for lifetime achievement "The Golden Muse"; his works "A Brief History of World Drama" and "Theory of Artistic Culture" were specially distinguished.
