American actor Robert Duvall, star of the hit movies "The Godfather" and "Apocalypse Now", has died at the age of 95, world agencies reported, quoted by BTA.
Duvall was born on January 5, 1931 in San Diego, California. He grew up in a military family, his father was an admiral. He studied acting in New York and during that time worked at the Manhattan post office. He became friends with Dustin Hoffman and Gene Hackman, who were also young, still unsuccessful actors at the time.
Duvall's career in cinema spanned seven decades and he was perceived as one of the greatest actors of his time. He has won one Academy Award, one BAFTA Award, four Golden Globe Awards, two Emmy Awards, and one Screen Actors Guild Award.
Duvall began his television career with small roles in several television series in the 1960s, including The Defenders and Armstrong's Circle. In 1966, he made his Broadway debut in Frederick Knott's play Wait Until Dark.
He made his feature film debut as Boo Radley in To Kill a Mockingbird in 1962. Duvall won the Academy Award for Best Actor for his role in The Defenders. for best actor for his role as a former country music star suffering from alcoholism in the film “Tender Mercy“. He was also nominated for an Oscar for his roles in “The Godfather“ (1972), “Apocalypse Now“ (1979), “The Great Santini“ (1979), “The Apostle“ (1997), “Civil Action“ (1998) and “The Judge“ (2014).
In his personal life, Duvall has been married four times, with his last wife being an Argentine woman who was 40 years his junior.
